2013 - Upcoming Events Hosted by the Center for Community Design

The Landing Mall - 2nd Floor Banquet Room
Suggested Donation:  $5.00

In conjunction with February's Second Weekend Art Walk, we are pleased to show this breathtaking Robert Chrestensen film.  Just under 1 hour in length, it allows the viewer to "Experience the Magic of the Wild Olympics".  Featured are four avid outdoors enthusiasts: Dave Skinner, Harvest Moon, Dane Burke and Tim McNulty.  If you missed the premier of the movie at Little Theater on December 6 or if you would just love to see it again, please join us!

The filmmakers, Robert & Kathy Chrestensen, and several of the cast will join us for an evening filled with stories of the Olympic Wilderness.  The evening will be enhanced by music and storytelling by Quinault native Harvest Moon, as well as a conversation with the Chrestensens and cast.  We also will be honored with the presence of our new Olympic National Park Superintendent, Sarah Creachbaum.

Proceeds of this event will support Klallam Earth Day activities (April 20) and the 2013 Paddle Journey to Quinault at Taholah (August 1-6).

Princess Angeline, daughter of Chief Seattle, is seen on many postcards and toward the end of her life, she lived alone, refusing to leave her homeland. What historical events led to her being one of the few Duwamish people left in Seattle by the 1890s, only 35 years after the peace treaty? This video explores the story of the Duwamish and their unrecognized tribal status primarily through the life of Princess Angeline.

Filmmaker Sandra Osawa and her husband, Yasu Osawa, of Upstream Video Productions will join us for this 53-minute long movie and discussion to follow.   If any of you were able to see Sandy's film, Maria Tallchief, when it premiered at PC's Little Theater last November, you know what a remarkable opportunity this is.

Proceeds of this event will support the 2013 Paddle Journey to Quinault at Taholah (August 1-6).
